Recently, The Design Files profiled a garden Michael designed and the Bates team constructed on Sydney’s beautiful North Shore. The Design Files is a popular online design publication with enormous social following, so we are thrilled to collaborate with them.
We’ve had a long involvement with this North Shore garden. Through two owners across 15 years, we’ve guided its evolution from a wet, unusable space to its latest incarnation. Today’s garden harnesses the site’s unique character and takes it to the next level.
Below is a preview to The Design Files review of the garden – click the link at the bottom to read the full article in it’s original location.
The Design Files Garden Profile: A Brazilian-Inspired Garden with Epic Bayside Views
Michael Bates of Bates Landscape started work on this garden 12 years ago, under different owners. Once the property was sold, the new custodians re-engaged the landscape designer to rework the garden, to complement a new renovation.
Centred around the new Madeleine Blanchfield-designed residence, a bold sculptural artwork, and a desire to activate all parts of the steep and windy site, Michael’s new garden layout connects a variety of functional and aesthetic pockets through a central lawn.
Each outdoor space in this vast and varied garden is its own moment!
